When I got it on March 17, 2017 it had a mere 40k miles on it. Since then, I have amassed almost 37k miles behind the wheel. For the vast majority of the time, it’s been trouble free. It has had 3 coils go bad, and some leaking gaskets have been replaced. Other than fluids, that’s all I’ve done to it, well besides put new tires on it. It did eat a set of fronts, but that was fine because I already had the replacements on had as they came off the front of the M3 when it got tires in May of last year.

“ For the vast majority of the time, it’s been trouble free.”

That’s not how I remember —

“ It has had 3 coils go bad, and some leaking gaskets have been replaced. Other than fluids, that’s all I’ve done to it, well besides put new tires on it”

Aaaaand there we go.

I mean, tires are wear items, and I got ~27k on a set of PS2s which is 7 more than I got with them on my M3.

I guess it’s all about perspective. The 328i is cheaper than an M3 to run... But it still eats tires well over twice the rate of a typical commuter, and I bet those aren’t cheap. Leaking gaskets under 80k miles kind of sad, but coils  are glossed over because that’s just what E90s do...

I knew going into this that this car wasn’t going to be the cheapest commuter I could’ve gone with. The tires aren’t cheap, but at the rate I drive now, ~10k miles/year, they should last me at least 3 years. Leaking gaskets and coils are E9X things, and to me more of an annoyance than anything else. My experience with leaking gaskets was my mom’s Oldsmobile Silhouette which leaked very early into ownership; this is an improvement over that.

Wow, your mom owned a Dust Buster? From humble beginnings indeed.

She had a 2001, which my parents bought new in 2001. It was traded in on a 2014 RDX in late 2013 with a fai ling transmission . I was not a fan of it, but it did pretty faithfully serve my parents for 12 years and 155k miles. It was the car that I spent the most time learning how to drive on.

Does it have the M seats or the normal ones, and how does your ass feel after four hours behind the wheel?

It’s got the sport seats, they came with the M-sport pack. My ass feel fine, I just wish it had lumbar support. I’ve done a few 7 hours drive in it and I wasn’t that exhausted.

Congrats on the milestone. It sounds like you’re still happy with it, which is all you can ask.
